An accountant forowner-managed small businesses
N&V Accounting & Tax Services is a small business accountant for owner-managed SMEs across South Africa. One CA(SA)-led team handles your bookkeeping, VAT, payroll submissions, annual financial statements and tax, so there is one set of numbers, one filing calendar and one person to call when SARS writes.

Sound familiar?
“I only hear from my accountant at year-end.”
By then it's too late to change anything. We send monthly numbers and flag issues while you can still act.
“The books are a few months behind.”
Slips in a drawer and an unreconciled bank account. We catch up the backlog, then keep it current every month.
“SARS keeps sending letters.”
A red compliance status, a verification request or penalties you don't understand. We find the cause and fix it.
What most small businesses need from us
Not every business needs every service. We'll tell you which ones apply.
Bookkeeping
Monthly processing and bank reconciliations in cloud software you can log into, reviewed by a CA(SA), so your records are always VAT- and year-end-ready.
Company accounts
Annual financial statements to IFRS for SMEs, plus monthly management accounts that show margins, cash and debtors while you can still act on them.
VAT & EMP
VAT registration and VAT201 returns, EMP201 monthly PAYE, UIF and SDL, and EMP501 reconciliations, submitted on time through SARS eFiling.
Business tax
ITR14 company returns, provisional tax, small business corporation and turnover tax decisions, and help getting a clean tax compliance status.
Personal tax
ITR12 returns, IRP6 provisional tax, rental income, capital gains and trust returns, prepared by a registered tax practitioner.
Company registrations
New (Pty) Ltd registration with CIPC, then the follow-through: SARS registrations, annual returns and beneficial ownership filings.
Deceased estates
Accounting and tax support for executors and families: estate assets and liabilities, SARS compliance and Liquidation and Distribution Accounts.

Growing? Know which thresholds you're about to cross
Growth brings new obligations, and most arrive without a letter from SARS. Pass R2.3 million in taxable supplies over 12 months and VAT registration is compulsory. Employ your first staff member and you have 21 business days to register for PAYE. Let your payroll exceed R500,000 a year and the Skills Development Levy applies.
We watch these thresholds for you, so you register on time and not after the penalties.

Accountants for every step ahead
Monthly management accounts and a short review of what they mean, so you price, hire and borrow on real numbers instead of last year's tax return. We flag the trends worth acting on (margins slipping, debtors stretching, cash getting tight) while there is still time to do something about them.
We set your books up in cloud accounting software with bank feeds, so transactions arrive on their own and reconciling becomes a monthly review rather than a weekend job. You keep your own login, so your records are always yours to see, not stuck in a folder on our side.
Behind on SARS returns? We pull your compliance profile from eFiling, list everything outstanding, and file it oldest first: income tax, VAT, EMP201s and CIPC annual returns. Where penalties have been raised, we can ask SARS to remit them if the grounds exist. Once you're current, we keep you there with a filing calendar.
After the intro call you get a written quote for an agreed scope: bookkeeping, VAT, payroll submissions, year-end statements and tax, whichever apply. One monthly amount covers that scope, so you can budget for it. If the scope changes, for example you register for VAT or take on staff, we requote before any extra work starts.
Frequently asked questions
There is no regulated fee scale for accountants in South Africa. The cost depends on your transaction volume, the number of employees on payroll, whether you're VAT-registered, the state of your records and whether you need annual financial statements. Ask for a written, fixed-scope monthly quote covering bookkeeping, VAT, payroll and year-end tax before you commit.
A small business only charges VAT and pays it over to SARS once it is registered as a VAT vendor. Registration is compulsory when taxable supplies exceed R2.3 million over 12 months, from 1 April 2026, and optional above R120,000. Below the compulsory threshold a business can usually stay unregistered, and qualifying micro businesses may consider turnover tax instead.
It depends on your profit, your risk and your plans. A sole proprietor is taxed personally at individual rates. A (Pty) Ltd is a separate legal entity that pays company tax, and a qualifying small business corporation pays lower rates on its first R550,000 of taxable income. We compare the after-tax result and admin cost for your numbers before you decide.
Check that the person signing your returns is a registered tax practitioner (SARS has an online lookup) and belongs to a professional body such as SAICA. Ask who will actually do the work, how you'll get your numbers during the year, and for a written quote that lists what's included. Make sure your records sit in software you can access yourself.
Yes. We pull your SARS compliance profile, list every outstanding return and payment, and file them in order, oldest first. Where penalties have been raised, we can request remission if there are grounds for it. If the problem involves income that was never declared, we'll explain the Voluntary Disclosure Programme and whether it applies to you.
