Annual financial statementsand management accounts
N&V Accounting & Tax Services prepares annual financial statements for owner-managed companies across South Africa, and monthly management accounts for owners who want to run the business on current numbers. The Companies Act requires a company's annual financial statements within six months of year-end; ours are prepared and reviewed by a CA(SA).

What annual financial statements are, and why you need them
Annual financial statements (AFS) are a company's formal yearly financial report: the statement of financial position, statement of comprehensive income, statement of changes in equity, cash flow statement and the notes. Section 30(1) of the Companies Act requires a company to prepare them within six months after the end of its financial year.
They are also the document everyone else asks for. SARS relies on them for the ITR14 company tax return, banks ask for them before lending, and tender boards and landlords often want the latest set. We prepare them to IFRS for SMEs, the reporting framework most owner-managed companies use.

Year-end and every month
- Yearly
Annual financial statements
Full set of AFS to IFRS for SMEs, with the notes and directors' report, ready for SARS, your bank and your shareholders. We also prepare the tax computation that feeds your ITR14, so the statements and the return agree.
- Monthly
Management accounts
A short monthly pack: income statement against budget and last year, balance sheet, cash position, debtors and creditors ageing, plus a few lines on what changed and why. You see margins slipping or debtors stretching in the month it happens, not twelve months later.
What monthly management accounts tell you
The questions owners actually ask, answered every month.
Am I making money?
Gross and net margin by month, so a pricing problem shows up before it becomes a year-end loss.
Where is the cash?
Cash in the bank, what's owed to you, what you owe, and whether next month's commitments are covered.
Can I afford it?
Real numbers for hiring, buying equipment or taking on debt, instead of estimates from last year's tax return.
How year-end works
Records in
We confirm the trial balance, bank reconciliations, fixed asset register and year-end balances with you.
Statements drafted
We prepare the AFS and the tax computation, and send you a draft with a short list of questions.
Signed off and filed
Once you approve the draft, the directors sign, and we use the statements to prepare the ITR14 and any CIPC filings that need them.
Frequently asked questions
Annual financial statements are a company's yearly financial report: the statement of financial position, statement of comprehensive income, statement of changes in equity, cash flow statement and notes. South African companies must prepare them within six months of their financial year-end under section 30(1) of the Companies Act. They support the ITR14 tax return, bank finance applications and CIPC compliance.
It depends on your company's public interest score and on the regulations for your class of company. Under section 30(2A) of the Companies Act, a company where every shareholder is also a director is exempt from an audit or independent review, unless the regulations require its class of company to be audited. N&V is not an audit firm; if you need an audit, we prepare the statements and work with a registered auditor.
Management accounts are short internal financial reports, usually monthly, showing profit, margins, cash and what's owed to and by the business. Unlike annual financial statements, they aren't required by law. They're for you: to price properly, plan cash and decide whether you can afford to hire or borrow. Owner-managed businesses with growing turnover or staff get the most value from them.
Usually: bank statements for every account for the full year, your accounting software access, the fixed asset register or invoices for major purchases, loan statements, and a list of stock, debtors and creditors at year-end. If we already do your monthly bookkeeping, most of this is in place and year-end is mostly review. We send a checklist tailored to your company.
Yes. Banks normally ask for the latest signed annual financial statements and often recent management accounts as well. If your year-end statements are out of date, we can bring them current first. We don't negotiate with the bank on your behalf, but we can explain your numbers clearly so you walk into the meeting knowing what the bank will ask.
